(no subject)

So... today has not been a good day. The blowup I've been dreading expecting finally came, and it was bad. And that's all I can say about that.

3 Marines charged in Iraqi killings.

N.J. governor signs gay civil unions law.

Documentary: French soldiers had bin Laden in the crosshairs.

Colorado blizzard strands thousands.

Virgin birth expected for Komodo dragon in UK zoo; Wise Men seen on the Tube.

'Hibernating' man survives for 3 weeks.

Study: shrooms relieve OCD symptoms.

'Seinfeld' spurs Festivus pole sales.

Jessica Simpson asks out of Parton tribute, having blown her Kennedy Center performance of "Nine to Five" the first time, then made everyone stay after the show to record another one that wasn't good enough either.

Struggling New Line looks ahead to December 2007. You and me both, babe. At this point, it's like, "So, you wanna see the movie about the man coming to grips with his wife's cancer, or the one where mankind can't reproduce anymore? Or the one about the whole football team that died? The one where innocent Africans die over conflict diamonds? Hey, I hear the one about the guy who kills girls to make perfume is gonna be pretty good." BE LESS DEPRESSING.

(The studio, which had a dismal year at the box office, recently sent out a handsomely produced promotional brochure heralding its big-budget fantasy movie "The Golden Compass," an adaptation of the first installment of Philip Pullman's best-selling "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Chris Weitz is directing the December 7 release.)

Have you taken a look at the perfume set you can buy for, er, Perfume (oh, the logic), linked off their Web site? For $700? Really quite impressive, but movie tie-in merchandise just keeps getting more and more expensive, doesn't it.... ;)

[identity profile] casirafics.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
...and I'm apparently code-impaired today, sorry. :)

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, which website? Obviously I'm not going to buy it, but I want to see what the notes are.

(I have desperately wanted to smell the Amor et Psyche described in the book.)

[identity profile] casirafics.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh. See here. (http://www.perfume.thierrymugler.com/us/)

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
omg.

Virgin birth expected for Komodo dragon in UK zoo;

"And in the same wing of the zoo, there were some naturalists staying out in the halls, and keeping watch over their crocs by night."

[identity profile] dietcokebreak.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That comment is BRILLIANT!!

[identity profile] clodia-risa.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy Valentine Michael Smith, Batman!

What is the movie where mankind cannot reporduce any longer?

[identity profile] clodia-risa.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

It looks...gritty, but interesting. Michael Caine is in it, that gives it +5 points.

[identity profile] cellardoor28.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, it has Clive Owen in it - that's +10!

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Alfonso Cuaron directing is at least another +5.

[identity profile] cellardoor28.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
And Julianne Moore must be +5 too.

[identity profile] clodia-risa.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, to each their own. :)

[identity profile] dietcokebreak.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Does that mean in that world you could have loads of sex with Clive Owen without the fear of getting pregnant? SCORE! YES!

[identity profile] cellardoor28.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Focussing on the important details I see :p

[identity profile] dietcokebreak.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
What can I say? I have my priorities in line!! ;)

[identity profile] particle-person.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope the storm blows over, Cleo.

Also, that is the prettiest icon you've made in quite a while.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's from yet another Perfume poster.

[identity profile] bigeyedrabbit.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The blowup I've been dreading expecting finally came, and it was bad.

Awwwww, I'm sorry to hear that. :P Hope it all blows over without raining too much drama on you.

[identity profile] allthelivesofme.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, all those are New Line movies. lol

Hope your day gets better!!

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
So it only shows what a big nerd I am, but...parthenogenesis, newspeople. It ain't new.

[identity profile] majormeg7.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But they've never seen it in a Komodo dragon, or any such large species. That's the news value.

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
This is true. Still, it's a lizard. It's not like this is happening in, say, a cat.

But in less depressing news...

[identity profile] altairkrystona.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
But Golden Compass is coming, which may cleanse all of their sins. They're just in a bad phase right now. *fingers crossed*

But, but, but, but...

Children of Men is AWESOME!

Is it out in the States yet?

Re: But in less depressing news...

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Not until Christmas Day.

Re: But in less depressing news...

[identity profile] disturbed-kiwi.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Its totally worth seeing.

[identity profile] cleojones.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking a mountain lion cub abortion may be in order for that komodo dragon.

[identity profile] elbeonore.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
That was my first thought, too. I'm still a bit scared, actually.

PS: Has anyone seen this (http://filmick.blogspot.com/2006/12/anne-hathaway-becoming-jane-four-times.html)? It's a selection of four posters for "Becoming Jane", and you can vote (http://www.thefilmfactory.co.uk/research/becomingjane/) on your favorite. I was expecting to hate a melodrama about Jane Austen, but I've fallen unexpectedly in love with that second poster, where Jane's on the swing.

See, my choir sang at the Kennedy Center Honors and we watched Jessica Simpson as she slowly fell apart onstage- we were all convinced it was a wardrobe malfunction from the way she seemed to be clutching her dress. A hand that first seemed fixed on her stomach inched over during the song until it was wrapped around her entire chest. *shrugs* But then the next day, all the gossip was centered around her "nerves", so perhaps we were all too anxious to have a wardrobe malfunction of our very own. ;)

[identity profile] thegeneralerin.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
First of all, I love your icon. I attend university there, at American. May I steal the very pretty icon?

Next, out of sheer curiosity, what choir are you in?

[identity profile] sadcypress.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, feel free to steal it! I think it was by [livejournal.com profile] miggy- I know I credited correctly in the icon comments. As for your other question, the choir is the Choral Arts Society of Washington. Apparently, they're the go-to group for the Honors, but this was my first time since joining last fall, so the thrill was new. ;)

[identity profile] oldfeatheryhat.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Since you seem to be interested in this sort of thing:

Va. Congressman fears more Muslims elected. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16311648/) Because y'know, horror of horrors that we elect anyone that isn't WASP, just like the rest of our culturally uniform country.

Go Virginia. =/

[identity profile] count-01.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Goodness knows, next time we might elect a woman, or a Democrat, or something!

[identity profile] thyroyalmajesty.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ugggh, and when Goode said that he "wasn't going to put [his] hand on a Koran," I'm like, "You don't have to, you idiot! You get to choose what you swear in with!"

I hate bigotry, but illogical bigotry is even worse.

(As an athiest, I would swear in on... what? The Constitution, maybe?)
elbales: (Not good!Turlough)

[personal profile] elbales 2006-12-22 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I'm sorry to hear there was a blowup. That really can't keep going, can it? :(

[identity profile] edda.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Jessica Simpson: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I mean, oh, that poor girl. *snerk*

[identity profile] dramedy.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I am really excited about perfume, simply because Rachel Hurd-Wood is all pretty and red-haired in it.

Also, Alan Rickman.

[identity profile] ladyhawke-wings.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the blowup, Cleo - hope it works out ok, in the end. :-(

[identity profile] cici-chan.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you still pimp things for people, and I know this isn't the perfect time to ask, but could you please pimp the icon I'm using? (PRODUCT) Red is, as you probably know, Bono's new campaign about spreading awareness of and eliminating AIDs in Africa through fashion and the like. Come to think of it, I'm surprised LJ hasn't already been (RED)-ified. :)

Thanks for reading. :)

Blow up

[identity profile] comixfan.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear you're having a bad day. I'll send some good thoughts your direction. Hang in there.

[identity profile] yarha.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry about the blowup. Things things tend to subside, though, much like a brick dropped in a pond.

Yarha, Proverbial Ripples

[identity profile] mermaidrain.livejournal.com 2006-12-22 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohhh! Pretty "Perfume" icon! I can't wait for the movie. It was one of my favorite books in college. I can't wait to see how it's handled. Plus it has Alan Rickman! Not quite sure HOW that's all going to work out, but I'm still dying to see it. ;)
