Could be, but what struck me about it was: a) the released the name already (although could indicated relative because the family would know) and b) usually if it's family that information is released early on. If it was his family, and the name was already released, why wouldn't it be noted that they were related. Not to be harsh, but it would play up sympathy for the family and guy himself. Plus- it's obvious that leaving that bit out makes people start to ask questions, especially since the other passengers were so young.
