This and that

Yes, I know the new Lemony Snicket comes out today . Yes, I know it's the very last installment. Do not say A WORD about it until I get it this afternoon and finish reading it, okay? I WILL NOT BE SPOILED.

So. Friday the 13th. I'm trying to go through and notice good things as much as I can, because it seems like the kind of day that could be either traditionally horrible or unusually lucky. My internet keeps going in and out every three seconds, which is annoying, but it's been doing that all week. The weather is perfect and cool and sunny and gorgeous. I made muffins for breakfast, and we had exactly two eggs left for the mix. I used up the last of the milk and wanted a glass to drink, and we had an entirely new jug of milk down in the basement fridge. The muffins came out perfectly. I'm just going to keep willing the day to be nice, and we'll see how far I get with that.

Notice about contacting me: my bank sent me a new debit card, and in the thousands of years it took me to get off my ass and inform the appropriate online vendors, my website hosting services lapsed for dailydigest.net and cleolinda.com. I've gotten them back up, but anything sent to me at either of those emails didn't get to me, apparently. From now on, I'm going to be giving out my email as either dailydigest at yahoo.com (which I should probably change because it has no relation to anything anymore, but everything's on that account, you know? I hate the idea of moving) or cleolinda at livejournal.com, which has the advantage of simply being a redirect to whichever email address I'm actually using. That's all the other two addresses ever were--redirects to the Yahoo email. And if I ever move to a different account, cleolinda at livejournal.com will be redirected to wherever I go, so it's probably your safest bet for getting hold of me.

(I also have a Hotmail and a Gmail account, but I rarely check them. For some reason, I just don't like the interfaces.)

It's Official: Madonna's a Mama. You know. Again.

The Secret Letter from Iraq: a soldier's candid, even funny, email, reprinted by Time magazine with the author's approval.

Hawkins Leaves The Darkness.

The only two "Im in ur" Lost icons you will ever need.

New LJ styles. I love Top Secret and Magic Paper, but I feel so attached to my current layout.

"Lost" Hit by Battleship Patinkin.

As Capote, Jones has tough act to follow. Yeah, that's kind of an understatement.

"We do not have a smoking cow at this point," said Dr. Kevin Reilly, deputy director of the Prevention Services Division of the California Department of Health Services. I don't know you, Dr. Reilly, but I kind of love you.

Cleo, you just had to go and get me hooked to del.icio.us, didn't you? And now I am going through, fiddling, and sorting out my categories and the like, when I should be either asleep or studying. XD

Does cocaine make you lie?

I wish Madonna would adopt me. At 30, I am technically old enough to be Madonna's son.

In reference to the Lost "Im in ur" icons... in my lack of sleep, I thought for a moment "There aren't any Daleks in Lost!"

Or *ARE* there?

From the letter from Iraq:

Best Chuck Norris Moment: The Iraqi Mayor snatching up the bad guy's weapon to shoot five of his seven captors and scare the other two off.

I love it!

It should've been written Madonna and "the husband".

That letter from Iraq made me cry. Mainly because my dear friend's brother is over there and hearing his horror stories, I marvel at the lion heart who can write a story with such aplomb in the face of all that destruction.

Aaaaaaand 'smoking cow' is forthwith my new catchphrase.

Re: er

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, that. It's been pointed out to me before; it's mostly a matter of getting my provider to privatize that information, if that makes any sense, but [provider] isn't very helpful with that kind of thing. Like, in the sense that they're not real forthcoming with help/FAQ stuff.

Re: er

E-mail me the provider (I assume you mean your webhost) that I might have a chat? Or at least see stuff.

Can I borrow Lemony when you're done?

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I was planning on lending it to you. : )

What did I lend you the time before? Tell me it was Devil in the White City, because I can't find it now.

[identity profile] emargaret.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, sorry, I borrowed that from David when I read it. You lent me Perfume, which I've been too scared to read so far. I am a wuss. I had to stop reading Under the Banner of Heaven until daylight after the opening because I was too scared.

Hawkins Leaves The Darkness.

I thought this was a reference to the Dark is Rising movie until I clicked the link.

*sends luck*

I thought it was about Hawkins from Jericho. Which is sad.

"We do not have a smoking cow at this point."

That may have inspired the mental image of the day, yep.

Ooh, the Lemony Snicket books are OVER? I guess this means I should finally read them. And ha, of COURSE there are thirteen. And the last one comes out on Friday the 13th. Oh, Daniel Handler.

The only two "Im in ur" Lost icons you will ever need.
HA. Perfect.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It was 30% off at B&N--like, the actual store itself--and if you keep an eye out, you might be able to get a super-cheap, almost-new copy secondhand off Amazon or half.com--like, a dollar or two. I love those. And there's always the library, although you might want to get your name on the waiting list that's probably there already.

I'm a little iffy about Infamous, simply because Capote was so brilliant and, indeed, unmatchable, and I'm not sure how different and effective an approach this one can take. And I'm always iffy about films containing Sandra Bullock, for some reason I haven't quite figured out yet.

Also, this is a strange request, but I remember you making a post back when the Marie Antoinette teaser was released, talking about New Order songs, and I was wondering if you had any to recommend, because I think I might need to progress beyond "Age of Consent". ;-)

Speakin' of new El-Jay styles, there be two or t'ree made by yours truly, soon-like. *preens*

And rockers' cocaine habits make my nose ache. Just...eughhhh.

Awesome. You know, I'm almost thinking of doing something like a "casual Friday" where I change my layout for at least 24 hours. You know... like dressing up in a new outfit. Because I'm ridiculously attached to this one, but I'd like to have a little variety now and then.

[identity profile] katytowell.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I do the same thing. Especially over on the Vox side of things. The trouble is, I'll complain about some little template detail, like leaving the white fringies on a transparent gif or somesuch. Then they'll fix it, and I'll be like, "Woot. 'k, I want a different one, now."

They listen to me, of course, because... Nah, they really don't. Dang.

Brand-new, fab looking US trailer for Perfume. For good measure, a couple of clips from the movie as well as a few clips from Marie Antoinette. :)

This time it's The Good German with your Cateness. Also, The Painted Veil and some The Prestige clips. All here (http://trailer-spot.livejournal.com/115062.html).

>>The only two "Im in ur" Lost icons you will ever need.

Btw, I've been stumbling across some great "in ur" icons recently -- but I'm having trouble actually finding them on purpose. Damn icon/avatar sites, where are they when you need them?

[identity profile] foresthouse.livejournal.com 2006-10-18 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean about the LJ styles - I actually decided to change mine, finally, went and did it, made a whole new color scheme...and hated it. I ended up going back to the old scheme (component) and only adding a graphic at the top and a new icon. *sigh*

P.S. I love Mandy Patinkin. Even if he does steal LOST ratings.
