At the end of the episode that introduced Henry Gale (it was the Sayid flashback one), the two of them were sitting on the beach. Sayid told Charlie about how he had beaten Henry senseless, and knew Henry was hiding something. He said something about how people seem to have forgotten how dangerous the Others are, and basically implied that Charlie would be a good ally, since he was almost killed by Ethan. I think since then Charlie has latched onto him.

Charlie has few friends these days since Locke socked it to him. Then there's the whole kidnapping Sun thing only Sawyer knows about...
It's wrong of me, but I'm kinda liking the new Bad Attitude Charlie.
