So, I assume you've finished the movie by now. Thoughts?

So...they all knew this was bad, right? We weren't meant to take this seriously, were we? Because, wow. There was lots of badness.

... you might not want to see all the "For Your Consideration" ads last Oscar season, then.

Also: man, fuck the fainting couch, he's got a SWAN BED. I WANT THAT.

I love how he's all *hovers below a freaking operahouse*, but it's all pimped out somehow.

I LOVE THAT. Like, living in the lake under the opera house (there really is a lake under the opera house it was based on), but it's got the HELL art-directed out of it. He sews! He upholsters! He makes dioramas and puppet shows!

He's a one-man Queer Eye for the Sociopath Guy.

(sorry to invade the conversation, just have my two cents, heh)

I read the novel, and it's a house in the middle of the lake. I mean, I was thinking ugly wallpaper and stuff in the house, it's got a big dining table and everything, but not nearly as ornate as the movie one. For one, the bookPhantom sleeps in a COFFIN. I don't think that would have done well for the mood though. "Here Christine, you've fainted dead away, so I'll put you in my bed coffin...get it, dead away? Hah hah hah." and then she would wake up in a coffin and freak out. So I understand the change. But the movie lair was seriously like "Erik's lair playset! Comes with Christine and Erik action figure, the Christine with fainting action! Batteries and singing not included, some decorating required."
