STUPID INTERNET. Is going in and out. Am getting upgraded modem tomorrow, just in time to RESEARCH PAPER THAT WILL PREVENT ME FROM AUTOMATICALLY FAILING, THANKS.

ETA: I am so dumb. How have I been in an MFA program for like three years now and never noticed the "download article in PDF format" option before? *steals like a stealing thing*

Goodness...you juggle so much. I am in awe, and shall hope that everything gets done in time. :( I'm sorry, dear.

Calmate! You won't fail, silly.

If the paper is not in her hands by June 15, I automatically fail, because I took an incomplete on this class, remember? This is not me worrying about my abilities; this is me worrying about the logistics of my internet connection and various tropical storms' affect thereon. Also? I've already failed one class, so yes, it is possible.

Pressure

Sorry to hear you're in such a crunch, C. If there's anything any of us can do, just say the word. If there's nothing else we can do, at least we can wish you the best of luck. Oh, and leave a couple silly emoticon hugs in this post.

The 'download as pdf' has been an absolute godsend- particularly on those odd occasions where I've suddenly realised that I have to... for example... write an essay on a ferry to sweden for an SCA event, otherwise I'm going to have to write the essay AT the SCA event....

Can you put the essay on disk, as a backup plan, and get it special delivered by UPS to your tutor, just in case?

Good Luck on getting your paper done. You did get the book finished and I think with a little hard work, luck, prayers and support you can get this done on time too!

I've got faith you get it done on time!

Hugs, Christina

That's because practical skills are not taught.

I got all the way into a PhD program before I heard of The Modern Language Association or The Reader's Guide.

But it won't happen, since you'll crank this thing out in a day and be the winnar as you always are!

G'luck, bwana. Think how good it will feel when it's done. (That's what my mother always says to me. Isn't it annoying? Mothers are a trial. ;)

Go Cleo Go! We have faith in you! That sounded cultish, didn't it? Sorry.

And...."download article in PDF format"? Wha?

Good luck and may the gods of internet connectivity smile upon you in this difficult time! ;) I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Completely apropos of nothing, and just as an fyi, I wanted to point out that I have made Veronica Mars Heroine Addict icons (http://www.livejournal.com/users/kyranjaye/108468.html). Well, two, anyway. Since, you know, you are the goddess of HA icons and all...

This may be a stupid question, but can you not get to a library instead of relying on the internet?

Well, all these thousands of articles have been scanned in page by page as gif files--a thirty-page article is a series of 30 image files. I suddenly noticed that you can download them all as a single pdf document, rather than save the individual files to disk or go back to the database every time I want to read something.

It's one of the library databases--if you're a student or employee, you can use your ID to access them from home. The criticism I need isn't--I don't think--in paper format at the actual library itself. But yes, going to the library and logging in there was an option if worst came to worst.

SEXY GORAN OMG.

I envy your ability to juggle multiple tasks, Cleo. That book had to take years off your life, and now you have to put a 15-page paper together? Bless you. :)

Hollacrap! Really?

... I guess that's what having a librarian for a mom got me. Though my MA program required a class on research methods. I guess it depends on your university?

wow, good for you, Cleolinda. Grad school and writing extra stuff too...gah...it would kill me. Writing my thesis is enough, blegh...

Have you tried using the Google Scholar beta? I've found a few articles through there that the Ebscohost-type-searches sometimes don't have...

Best of luck. I'm sure you will do wonderfully and not fail at all...I mean you were writing a book for goodness' sakes, how many grad students have that excuse?

Google Scholar is great for math/science-y stuff (I'm speaking as a frequent and grateful user in that vein) but I've heard that it doesn't cover humanities nearly as well. YMMV.

The Internet Gods are a tempermental, spiteful lot. I shake my fist at them on your behalf.

Frustration and stress seem to have eaten your life, I know, but hang in there. You'll have room to breathe again soon.

Both of mine failed me. And it's not like I didn't spend hours of my life in libraries before then. Some things are not obvious, even if you ask librarians and scholars for advice.

Your heart and the world shall not fail you. I cannot say you will succeed, but I can say I believe that you will suceeed and triumph. You have shown inspiring spirit and resourcefullness. You have inspired me several times in the past. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I can so relate to fading internet connections -- my perfectly good and efficient ISP was swallowed in a corporate merger, and now I get regular outages of fifteen minutes or so at various points during the day. Blargh.

Hope everything works out. Though I am quite sure that things will work out, and in wonderful ways, as well.

^__^

Personally, I would be more impressed with myself if I were also holding down a paying job--plenty of people do that, go to school, *and* write. I think, anyway.

This could be true about scholar...I'm in experimental psychology, so I may find much more stuff about my topic. Obviously, I've never really tried a search for fine arts stuff...too bad that google isn't more efficient for the FA area yet.
