Well, the picture is here (http://costumes.narniaweb.com/pevensiesfiles/greenarchery1hi.jpg)
It's described as "fitting closely to the wrists and then trumpeting out a bit" or something like that. I read that and thought "Poor actress is going to spend all day getting her sleeve caught in her bowstring"
Then I actually took a long look at the picture. The costume designer actually knew what they were about! The sleeves ARE tight to the wrists, but on the underside of the wrist they are actually cut in a curve slightly above the actual wristbone. On the top of the hands, the sleeve is longer and a bit fuller, covering the top of the hand almost to the knuckles.
So, it is actually a pretty clever set-up. Nothing flappy on the underside of the arm - perfect for archery, yet the sleeve is nice and graceful seen from other angles.
I scribbled off a quick e-mail to Phil, and he's gonna post the observations and credit me.
I do historical costumes for ren-faires, but am too tubby to pull off any of the film costumes, so I will have to content myself with helping other people make smashing outfits. It's either that or stop eating until December...
