Re: beignets. The problem with dating, rooming with, or being related to someone who writes anything intended to be funny is that you are inevitably going to get the short end of the stick in terms of the way you're portrayed, because... let's face it: it's not funny when things go right. My sister is actually a much better cook than the stories I tell about her would indicate, unfortunately. For example, she has made excellent fajitas (for dinner last night), cherry cheesecake with almond biscotti crust, tons of cakes that disappear in two days, blackberry cobbler with lemon cream, homemade salsa, duck l'orange ("Chef Whoever said my sauce was the best!"), fruit dessert pizza, truckloads of omelettes, napoleons that her boyfriend and I actually fought over, and beignets that did not, in fact, try to conquer the known universe. But things that turn out well aren't funny, so you don't hear much about them.

The thing about cooking and learning to cook--as my aunt, who recently got the same degree at the same college that my sister's getting, will tell you--is that you're bound to mess something up, try something that doesn't work, or have something blow up in your face through no fault of your own. Cooks, unlike writers, don't have the luxury of being able to revise--it either works or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, they have to start all over. There's no backspace on beergnets, let me tell you what. So please, don't get the wrong impression, because I don't want to die.

Re: accents. I was talking about accents with some folks last night and made some joke about not coming over to my LJ and saying, "So, you guys, which accents do you think are really hot?" But in the course of the conversation, two things kept coming up:

1. Of all accents, everyone loves Scottish.

2. Almost no one finds any American accent, with perhaps an exception or two, to be the least bit attractive.

Since there are a lot of y'all and you're from all over, let's actually take a look at this. So... which accents do you think are really hot, guys?

I don't even consider it an "American" accent. I'm so used to it. I don't think it's unattractive, but it's not like it toots my horn or anything. Pun intended.

As for sexy - on women, British and light Japanese. On men, Austrailian. Oh baby. Here I am. Rock me like a hurricane.

Scottish and Irish, obviously (more Irish, though). English, too... ok, the entire UK. A light French is interesting. I love Spanish accents. Something about the rolled r's...

Usually, I don't find (American) Southern accents all that hot (which, considering I have one...yeah), but Sawyer? Say 'sassafrass' again, sweetie.

My personal favorite is a French accent on German. If you speak a foreign language really well, and listen to other people trying to speak it, it usually sounds really funny (ie: my classmates from WI trying to speak German). French on German, however, is really pretty.

I melt for the right southern accent.

I can't describe it, I just know when it happens.

British, Irish, Austrailian and French for guys, in that order. For girls, the same thing, except add Russian in second place.
And, as someone already brought up, I usually don't like American Southern accents either...but somehow, Sawyer/Josh Holloway works it juuuust right.

I grew up in Baton Rouge, so I find Cajun accents totally thudlicious. I also like Scottish, Irish, and Welsh accents (that seems to be a common theme here), and Russian--though only on men in that case. I can't stand French accents; sounds like a mouthful of molasses. And Spanish accents are lovely, but I don't really care for Hispanic ones.

Scottish and Irish are equal-opportunity tasty accents. The hotness of straight up British is inversely proportional to how pretentious you actually are. I'd also like to give a shout-out to Italian and Spanish (as in, from Spain) - yum. However, I'm not that big on the French accent, as it mostly sounds like your mouth is full of marbles (although actually *speaking* in French? is dead sexy).

Australian: hot in men, incredibly obnoxious in women. After living in a dorm in Queensland, I decided that most Aussie girls sound like they're whining no matter what they're actually saying. New Zealand, OTOH, is just weird - it's like British English on LSD.

My sweetie is scottish and yes, it is VERY sexy. He will, without warning, trill a rolled r sound down the phone and I swear to god, I shiver and whimper. It's disgusting how predictable I am. :p

Besides, who can resist being called a silly gural...

Australian and Irish=rrrowwwrrr

Also Scottish, French, anyone from any part of England, and Croatian (OMG Luka from E.R.!!!)

I also LOOOVVVEE southern American and Texan accents (goes with my cowboy fetish). I can even hide my inner Grammar Nazi when it comes to a sexy southern drawl.

The only accents that I can name off the top of my head that I don't find sexy are Indian, any Asian, New Yawk, and Boston.

Crimity...that entry made me hungry; all that food and all I have is dorm fare.
As for accents, I love the Irish one.

Scottish, Irish, English (I am English and I like this accent, dammit!), light French, Italian, Australian, and actually it doesn't usually matter. If it's a bad voice, the accent can't improve it. Or. Well. Can't improve it much.

Also, couple of the people who I've turned into Lost addicts say that Sawyer's accent is gorgeous. And I like the Bostonian accent (... can I call it that?). Not because it's hot. I just like it. Like I like Polish accents.

I dunno, southern schoolmarm will get me any time.

And, even though it's not attractive but simply adorable (a-word adjectives!), the other day I heard a wee British boy call after his mother, "Mummy, where ahh we going?" Little British Kids have the best accent.

All accents are sexy but especially: French Canadian, Georgian (US) and Indian.
