I'm an (east coast) American married to a German. Typically, I drool over [all aforementioned Commonwealth country accents], but I've obviously come to really like a nice German one, as well.
I also wonder about how non-English speakers feel about American accents when the person is speaking their language. I've heard from a few Germans (my husband included, when I speak German) that they just loooove hearing Americans speak German. Seriously, they go all smiley.
It could just be because they're impressed that an American you know, learned something (btw, I'm not busting on Americans, it's just that they all seem to think that we aren't trainable or something. feh), or it could be the accent. I'll ask the man.
