Heh. Vladimir just got back from a press screening of Phantom of the Opera, and he is in love with the Collapsible Bodice. I'm so glad he liked the movie--he actually DISLIKED Pirates of the Caribbean (!!!) the first time he saw it, and I was afraid we were going to have a repeat of that all over again. It's so much more fun when you can enjoy an obsession together.  : )

(Vision update: I thought I would adjust to not having the glasses, but I can actually see less now. DAMMIT.)

I didn't know it was possible to dislike PotC??

Neither did I, until I showed it to my dad, who gave it a lukewarm, "Oh, it could have been better," and went back to whatever it was he was doing. I was sad, because I'm obsessed with it, but my brother and sister have more than made up for it.

Thats like when my mom fell asleep in the movie theaters during the first two Harry Potter movies. The first she was sick, so alright, I'll give her that one... But HOW can you fall asleep in a movie theater?

*blink blink* OK, there has GOT to be some goooood reason why he didn't like Pirates on the first go-round. Maybe there's something in the water in Croatia? He does like it now, right??

Yep, it gets worse. I thought I'd be OK because I can kind of see fine when I wake up - it's when I take my glasses off at night that my vision's the worst. But I was so, so WRONG. :)

oh, once you get used to it - and I have *very* nervous, sensitive eyes - you'll never go back to glasses. I ADORE my contacts. thank god for toric lenses - I have bad stigatisms in both eyes.

Speaking of icons, yours is so cool... where'd you get it?

I've got toric lenses, but usually I'm too lazy to put them on. They only take maybe a minute to put on, but that's sixty times longer than it takes to just whip on my glasses.

I do like wearing the contacts, though. It makes me feel all free. And hot. Although now I have pretty hot glasses, so that advantage is less of an issue.

It did take me like an hour or two to put my contacts on the first time. For each lens.

Empathy on the glasses front. Good luck getting them fixed. I'm not quite as blind as you are, it would seem, because I can (kinda) see my monitory without my glasses on/contacts in.

Also, I feel your pain, in class once, back before I wore my contacts nearly every freaking day in the nearly forgotten days of high school, one of the ear-pieces completely fell off. The screw just disappeared into the ether, and I had to go through the rest of the day and the ride home on the bus with only one earpiece on my glasses and the lenses perched on the end of my nose. I looked/felt like such a dork.

That was all by way of saying, I hope you get your glasses fixed soon! *crosses fingers and toes*

Whoa, thanks, Cleo.

Here's something like an explanation:

Look -- it just took me a while to adjust to the tone of POTC, okay? But eventually I learned to like it for the campy fun it is, and I spun it on DVD half a dozen times since. I still have issues with the Zimmer Minion Score, but by and large, yeah, I like it. Plus, I grew up on idiotic campy Italian comics which regularly featured redcoats as villains, so once I realised this was cut from the same mold, there were no more problems.

But I'm just not going to squee oved Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski. Like, yes. Squee, no. On principle, because of all their other sins...

my mom *always* falls asleep in the movie theater. or when we're watching a movie at home. in the middle of the day. but movie theaters... she's usually gone be the time the credits roll around. so we don't take her anymore.

Jerry Bruckheimer= negative squee... Anytime I see his or Michael Bay's name attatched to a film, I have LESS desire to see it... plus, I was warry about a Disney ride becomming a film-I think we all remember what they did with the Country Bears... wait? What do you mean no one does?

EXACTLY!

Thanks SO MUCH for understanding... I so totally didn't expect Cleo to sic the mob on me tonight. And wrote a nice review of POTO on my site and all... only to be recommended with faint praise indeed!

Totally agree on Bruckheimer, of course -- among his many other crimes, is it at all possible for the man to make a movie that does NOT feature stereotypes and caricatures exclusively? The difference with POTC is that the storyline actually can handle it -- unlike, say, Pearl Harbor, or King Arthur. But let's not go there, let's... stick with Country Bears.

Oo;

I differ with Vladimir a lot over Alexander, too, but I was sufficiently intrigued by his comments to actually go see it.

POTC lies in wait for me at home, still in its shrink-wrap. I haven't seen it yet, thus cannot say.

Not too crazy (http://www.livejournal.com/users/eula_tequila/152007.html) about the movie though. :D

I linked to Phantom in 15 minutes; hope you don't mind. :)
