Feb. 3rd, 2005 03:34 pmHeh. Vladimir just got back from a press screening of Phantom of the Opera, and he is in love with the Collapsible Bodice. I'm so glad he liked the movie--he actually DISLIKED Pirates of the Caribbean (!!!) the first time he saw it, and I was afraid we were going to have a repeat of that all over again. It's so much more fun when you can enjoy an obsession together. : )
(Vision update: I thought I would adjust to not having the glasses, but I can actually see less now. DAMMIT.)

Date: 2005-02-03 10:19 pm (UTC)Yep, it gets worse. I thought I'd be OK because I can kind of see fine when I wake up - it's when I take my glasses off at night that my vision's the worst. But I was so, so WRONG. :)

Date: 2005-02-03 11:08 pm (UTC)I do like wearing the contacts, though. It makes me feel all free. And hot. Although now I have pretty hot glasses, so that advantage is less of an issue.
It did take me like an hour or two to put my contacts on the first time. For each lens.

Date: 2005-02-03 11:39 pm (UTC)Also, I feel your pain, in class once, back before I wore my contacts nearly every freaking day in the nearly forgotten days of high school, one of the ear-pieces completely fell off. The screw just disappeared into the ether, and I had to go through the rest of the day and the ride home on the bus with only one earpiece on my glasses and the lenses perched on the end of my nose. I looked/felt like such a dork.
That was all by way of saying, I hope you get your glasses fixed soon! *crosses fingers and toes*

Date: 2005-02-03 11:42 pm (UTC)Here's something like an explanation:
Look -- it just took me a while to adjust to the tone of POTC, okay? But eventually I learned to like it for the campy fun it is, and I spun it on DVD half a dozen times since. I still have issues with the Zimmer Minion Score, but by and large, yeah, I like it. Plus, I grew up on idiotic campy Italian comics which regularly featured redcoats as villains, so once I realised this was cut from the same mold, there were no more problems.
But I'm just not going to squee oved Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski. Like, yes. Squee, no. On principle, because of all their other sins...

Date: 2005-02-04 12:59 am (UTC)Totally agree on Bruckheimer, of course -- among his many other crimes, is it at all possible for the man to make a movie that does NOT feature stereotypes and caricatures exclusively? The difference with POTC is that the storyline actually can handle it -- unlike, say, Pearl Harbor, or King Arthur. But let's not go there, let's... stick with Country Bears.
Oo;

Date: 2005-02-04 03:40 pm (UTC)POTC lies in wait for me at home, still in its shrink-wrap. I haven't seen it yet, thus cannot say.
