Well, damn. Finally my journal is back up--I'm on the chef cluster, so I don't even know if the entry before this is the last one I wrote. I can't remember--do y'all remember replying to another entry that isn't here now?

I'll tell you what I really missed about Livejournal--it wasn't my own journal at all. Honestly, all I did was work yesterday, and I didn't have a damn thing to say anyway. What I missed were my constant friends-list hits of music recs, celebrity gossip, movie trailers, hot actor picspam, political news, fresh-baked icons, RSS feeds, and bloggers who can actually spell. My friends list is basically a microcosm of everything I like on the internet fed onto a single page--no wonder I'm addicted to it. The people on other sites who've been making fun of emo teenies wailing for their lost journals all weekend--well, let me put it this way: if you think Livejournal is nothing but a bunch of middle-schoolers posting bad poetry about their latest experiments in cutting, maybe that's because you don't know anyone cool.

(And this was Hogsmeade weekend at [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome, y'all! Damn.)

Spent today with Grandma--Friday was her birthday, so today we had the big family lunch. Also, my parents went to see Phantom of the Opera, so we had a big roundtable dishing about movies, basically. George's verdict is that "it's a shame they didn't get a Phantom who could sing." My rebuttal is that George is not the audience they cast this Phantom for, if you know what I mean and I think you do. Also, my aunt, uncle, and cousin ganged up on us and convinced us to go rent buy Napoleon Dynamite, and I think I've convinced Grandma to watch the Golden Globes tonight so she can see clips from The Aviator; we bonded over a mutual love of young Katharine Hepburn while the roast finished cooking.

(I'm such a loser this year, y'all. For something like three years running, I had this huge awards season section on the Digest with weekly columns about who was in the running for what, and I'd do huge Globes and Oscar recaps, and this year I didn't even hear about the Globes until yesterday. I suck. P.S. I think The Aviator will win. It's the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, after all. Also, cross your fingers for Cate.)

Sigh. Back to work it is.

It's odd, but there was an absolute void where the Globes publicity usually resides. Until, what, Friday? I hadn't even heard that neither Gibson or Moore was nominated for anything.

I know; not being able to catch up on my friends list and everything about drove me buggy. LOL I didn't realize until yesterday how many of the sites I regularly check are people's ljs...

Where Am I? (http://www.livejournal.com/misc/whereami.bml) tells you which subcluster you're on.

omgwtfcleo. I SO just saw Phantom last night, and every time "mah doggeh!" came on, I kept giggling throughout the whole thing. It was hilarious.

Okay, so it's not just me? Because it really does feel like a void.

I think a lot of it is that this isn't a particularly compelling year in terms of competition--you know, the way the competition turns into a saga in and of itself. This year, it's like, that depressing Clint Eastwood boxing movie, or the little indie movie about people sitting around drinking wine that no one saw, or the latest Scorsese movie. There's no OMG WILL LOTR GET ROBBED AGAIN!?! urgency to it, you know?

I'm on the Chef cluster too, and I posted the same entry about eleven times before I read that the Chef cluster was having delays in entries showing up. So I had to wait up to delete the copies of the same entry. But everything's working now, which is groovy.

I caught you a delicious bass

Well, I meant that facetiously. You know how it is--there are always good, small movies that don't get the numbers they deserve. Awards show producers always whine when small movies lead the way and they don't have "big stars" for the shows--they're always happy when movies like Chicago (big names, made lots of money) are nominated because they know (or think) that people will tune in and watch.

is it wrong that i'm deeply amused that i'm on the filetmignon cluster?

oh, and in case you (almost certainly) didnt see this on my LJ today - i saw ian mckellen last night in gold hotpants.

that is all.

Dude, I was lost without LJ. As stupid as it sounds, I was. If I need something (pictures/information/whatever), a lot of the time, I run a search for it and see if a community pops up ("'Interest not found'?! What do you mean 'do-it-yourself laptop repair' is an interest not found?! I'M HAVING A CRISIS HERE"). I needed something the other day--I think it was how to reset an iPod--and I spent a few minutes whimpering and staring at the powerloss page instead of, y'know, checking the freaking manual or something. If Google and Livejournal both went down at the same time, I would be screwed.

Thank you for explaining the whole daddy loves you thing to me. I felt really dumb, and was going to post a long, involved response about how I was terrified of the opera since I was three and how I've never really been exposed to it before and then livejournal broke. And I feel exactly the same way you do about your lj. :)
