It took me a while to hear about the Jon Stewart-Tucker Carlson fracas, but...

STEWART: You know, the interesting thing I have is, you have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably.

CARLSON: You need to get a job at a journalism school, I think.

STEWART: You need to go to one.

CARLSON: Wait. I thought you were going to be funny. Come on. Be funny.

STEWART: No. No. I'm not going to be your monkey.

[...]

CARLSON: I do think you're more fun on your show. Just my opinion.

STEWART: You know what's interesting, though? You're as big a dick on your show as you are on any show.

I think I need a cigarette now. *flick* Ahhhhh.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] aprilia27 came through with a video link for us. Both our links have the transcript, but hers may be more accurate, however, given that mine is the crappy CNN insta-transcript.

Tucker Carlson is a conservative political analyst for a CNN show called "Crossfire". It's meant to be a debate show but it's mostly just two men, one republican and one democrat, screaming at each other.

There's a link on this site of most of the interview, if interested:

I agree with Rod Dreher (http://www.nationalreview.com/thecorner/04_10_10_corner-archive.asp#042755) that Mr. Stewart has been reading too much of his own press.

Jon Stewart is teh bawmb... even if his news isn't entirely 'real', most other 'journalists' live in Hiroshima.

They just need to develop coping skills. And maybe build bomb shelters.

Was that not the shit? How many people have been wanting to say that sort of thing to a pundit's face, and here's someone with the celebrity status to actually say it.

I just read that -- my mom had actually turned on CNN just in time to see it (and she hates Crossfire). She said Jon was just great.

I wish I could have seen it.

I would beat my mother over the head with a stick for a download of this. Okay, I'd beat her over the stick for a Klondike bar, but that's not the point.

I think my favorite part was when Carlson tried to give him shit about his "creampuff" Kerry interview and Jon was like, "You know, if you want to take your cues from a show on COMEDY CENTRAL, be my guest." And given how Carlson kept being like, "I thought you would be funny!," you know--like, either he's a hard-hitting journalist or he's a comedian, pick one, moron. Go Jon!

Gotta have one.

The CNN one is accurate again. I think they realized they were making themselves look bad when Media Matters et. al. started putting up the real transcript.

You can download the video via bittorrent (http://bitflood.org:8080/?file=791b2f5d95a54d1381b85f271b51f71e73964185) here. Browser download them here (http://randomfoo.net/?p=2004_10_00_archive.inc#crossfire). Make sure to right click and save as...gods know you don't want to sit there and wait for that bad boy to load in a media player. Trust me, save it to your hard drive first.

thanks for that. I felt bad for him at the end; I think he went on there intending to take these guys to task for being assholes and was just treated with no respect whatsoever. Damn you, Begalia! Damn you, Carlson! (also: sad to see that Paul Begalia does not actually resemble the freakishly shiny Chris Kattan from those Hardball parodies on SNL.)

I cannot believe that someone linked to the National Review. Oddest. Link. Ever.

Just let me say, as possibly the only political conservative here who will say this, even I hate Tucker Carlson. God, what a dork.
I know none of my conservative friends who care for him either.
It's like Pat Buchanan, sometimes I'm ashamed of the people who are suppossed to be on my side.
