So I went to Best Buy yesterday and got my new headphones... and a printer... and shitload of ink. If you've been keeping up with my computer purchases--and really, why would you?--you'll remember that a printer was part of the deal. Well, I ended up reconsidering, so I canceled the printer order, which was shipping separately anyway. Again with the semi-thrifty streak: laying down a lot of money hurts, but I'd rather buy a really nice piece of equipment now and get several years' use out of it. Also, my old printer is a fairly crappy inkjet that can't do shit, and my scanner is a bit behind the times with the quality and all as well. So I went over to the printer section at Best Buy and picked myself out a $300 printer/scanner/copier/fax/food processor/carwash/missile launcher, and they were also having a sale on ink wherein you bought a ton and got some free, and boy did writing that check hurt. But I got free ink and a good all-in-one machine that'll take up less space and actually enable me to print my own documents instead of running around the house looking for a relative with ink and paper. Also, my headphones enable me to hear out of both ears now. Rock.

(Half my friends list: "Given the crap you listen to... why is it so important to be able to hear it?")

Unfortunately, I can't use my headphones, because I have to keep an ear out for UPS on the off chance that my computer does arrive today or tomorrow. As much as I want it all to get here, it'd really be better if it didn't until Wednesday, because I have a paper I have to write tomorrow and would rather not have the temptation of going ahead and setting everything up and possibly screwing it up, too.

Also: Yay! Vladimir is home! He decided to let me try to guess whose autograph he got me--"To [My Actual Name]" and everything--and I was able to guess it, and it turns out it's the director of one of my most favoritest movies ever (a Cary Grant movie, no less). And it also looks like Algoritam (the publisher he translates for) has coughed up enough money for him to come visit this Christmas, which is good. I'm hoping I'll be able to finish my book--since it looks like I'm getting more time to do it--in time to get the rest of my advance and buy lots of Christmas presents with it.

Which reminds me--for no good reason, I guess--I also picked up Peter Pan on DVD while I was out. It's a pretty crappy DVD, in terms of the extras (Look! Two minutes of time-lapse footage on the pirate ship set! Now I REALLY know what it was like to be there filming OMG!), but then, I may be spoiled by the LOTR movies. And the Matrix movies. And the Harry Potter movies. And just about any other movie ever released on DVD in the last five years. And yet... I have a feeling the movie itself will get a lot of play in the Jones household, as Sister Girl went from "Ew, I don't like the Peter Pan kid, he's too young" to *drool* in ten minutes, and, as previously stated, I maintain that Hook is the sexor.

Speaking of pirates, I know y'all are going to help me observe Talk Like a Pirate Day on Sunday. It was tons of fun last year; I even wrote the whole Digest news update that way. My only request is that folks try not to quote Pirates of the Caribbean wholesale, you know? It's time to branch out beyond "Savvy?," y'all.

...wow, it feels like it was only just Talk Like a Pirate Day last week or something. Or maybe my friends just talk like pirates anyway.

*sniff* It's been such a long time since we got to talk... I miss chatting with you, it was always so much fun... almost like a priveledge, seeing as how you're always ripped apart by hordes of raving fans! ^^ Myself being one, nevertheless...

Just to let you know, I'm always reading every single one of your updates, and I enjoy them thoroughly... just a break from my dreary day! :) I'm really happy for you and Vlad and that The Squishy will be able to come visit you for Christmas! You must be ever so excited!!

Well, hope that, despite the odds, I'll hear from you sometime in the future. I really did enjoy corresponding with you... and it seems so empty without hearing from you! Good luck with the book, and have fun!

Ye gods, I had completely forgotten about Talk Like a Pirate day? I had such a good time with it last year, too.

::goes to prepare for some serious pirate-talking::

Yeah, among my circle of friends, pretty much every other day is Talk Like a Pirate Day. (Or maybe that's just me.) But I totally missed the boat last year, so I'll have to this year. The Dread Pirate Roberts counts, non?

I agree, the Peter Pan extras suck. They really missed the boat on that one. They marketed the whole movie to small children (the white plastic DVD case and all), instead of 18-30 year old females.

*Drools over Jason Isaacs*

Jason Isaacs is indeed Teh Sexor. The shirtless scene has to be the best four minutes in the entire film. Not that I didn't like the film for itself, but still... If he ever needs to kidnap another girl, I'm available, and FYI, I won't need rescuing. :)

THANK YOU. That case is ASS. It doesn't even have any kind of booklet or liner or anything. And really--I'm not saying it's *inappropriate* for kids, but my sister (18) and I watched it last night, and I'd seen it in the theater but she'd never seen it before, and she kept going, "WHAT the HELL?" at all the Wendy-Peter sexual tension and the Wendy-Hook sexual tension, for God's sake, and the whole "Peter! You're pink!" bit, and... yeah. I think it's a perfectly valid interpretation of the book and appropriate for adults, or even young teens, but little kids are still going to pick up on some of the psychosexual weirdnesses even if they can't put a name to it. Hell, the movie I compared it to in my original entry nine months ago was Labyrinth, and God knows I picked up on all the weirdness in that as a child.

Hey, we had pirates! Sure we did! Mobile was a huge port even back in the day! I'm sure they went around saying things like "Yar, we be fixin' to make y'all walk the plank, aight?"

Peter Pan suddenly became teh kewlies with my (girl)friends when they saw the boy who plays Peter. For once, a cute guy whom we can legally date! Of course, they looked at me strangely when I squealed when Luscious Jason Isaacs came onscreen...psh, those poor unenlightened mortals.

I'm totally talking like the Dread Pirate Roberts on TLAP day :) "As you wish..."

For real. Even though the arm stump kinda made it a little creepy, but okay. I think that was specifically the moment I realized this movie was perhaps misdirected at young children.

No, actually, I think that moment was when Wendy got in trouble for the picture of "I'm in bed, and a boy is visiting me." Yeah. Carry on.

Talk like a pirate day? How 'bout an inflatable parrot thrown in for extra panache?

You betcha. Thanks for the heads-up.

See, this is why I need to get the Digest back up. I swear it was one of the few general movie news sites, if not the only, devoted to keeping tabs on the projects of hot-guy actors.

Hee. Yeah, if I'd been in charge of this, I would have scrapped Peter from the script, and made Wendy of legal age. Because really, it's all about Hook, and Hook's needs. He's a lonely man, and he just needs love to be redeemed. But then, this wouldn't have played at a multiplex anywhere, and would have been the kind of movie you rent from the curtained back room and bring home in a paper bag. But with Jason Isaacs in it, it would be ok.

And I'd leave the dad out, because that's too creepy, even for me.

Have y'all heard of Captain Billy Bowlegs in 'Bama? In my little corner of Florida, we have a Billy Bowlegs festival every year with pirate ships in the bay and everything. It's AWESOME. There's a legend that he has buried treasure on Dauphin Island...

"Yar, we be fixin' to make y'all walk the plank, aight?"

Hee. I'm going to fit this into normal conversation from now on ^_^

Exactly. I often watch Labyrinth (Yes, I often watch Labyrinth) and wonder at the fact that I used to watch it as a kid. Scary.

I think those studios need someone to clue them in on how to get more sales. Sales to women of child-bearing age who wouldn't mind having Jason Isaacs's babies. Or Clive Owen's. Or Joaquin Phoenix's. Or Jude Law's. Hey, since I already work in marketing and I live in LA, I think that's a job for me! At least some of us girls are saavy enough to know when a kids movie, or an action/war movie (cough*BlackHawkDown*cough) will contain some sweet eye candy.

Has the Squishy actually come to see you yet? Wasn't he coming in July, and did he make it out? Or am I smoking crack and going comatose again? Which is highly possible.

And YAY! to the purchases! A they say, true economy lies not always in spending little, but spending wisely.

Hook is the SEXOR

No kidding, Hook is the sexiest in the movie. Seriously though, didn't you like the Mr. Darling in the Doghouse extra
