Over at Vladimir's journal: The Shark Tale premiere/press conference. "I notice that the buffet is almost exclusively stuffed with seafood, and I point out the weirdness of that to the press office lady. She just smiles and says that Jeffrey [Katzenberg] has a weird sense of humor." (Bonus Will Smith quote: "I just flew over here from Tokyo and am travelling to South Africa on Sunday. I'm so jetlagged, sometimes I even forget to be sexy.")

He says now that he did get me someone's autograph, but he won't say whose. I would try to guess, but he also got me a surprise present a little while back, and I guessed it instantly, so... I'll just let that one lie.

(Oddity in my junk mail folder: We can slash your monthly expenses! WATER/ELECTRICITY OTP! THEIRLOVEISSOFORBIDDEN!)

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] aralinde yesterday and she said that, no kidding, she actually met someone named Cleolinda for real. Like, actual birth name and everything (I KNOW!). And then we were talking about the weirdness of Googling "Cleolinda" and coming up with nothing but stuff about me--not even about me, but things by me, endless blog and journal entries (because, as I've previously noted, I cannot shut up), and... this page.

And wouldn't you know it, there's absolutely no way listed to contact anyone running the site. I ended up having to write to their advice column ("So, uh... can you advise me on how to... uh... get in touch with an editor or something?"). Fortunately the editor got back to me within a few hours and seems like a nice guy, and the site, you must admit, is very spiff. I may take them up on that offer after all (though God knows what I would write about).

Anyway. Thanks to that site, I discovered Liberty Meadows today. I read all the strips available on the site and kept thinking, "Man, these storylines are so disjointed," until I finally realized that "uncensored strips" meant "only strips that had been censored in the first place." So now I want to read everything else. It reminds me a little of every "wacky pack of animals" comic strip you ever liked, but with this awesome Marvel Comics babe at the center. Seriously, I think I would switch teams for Brandy. She is that awesome.

(Waaaant.)

(MUST STOP SPENDING MONEY.)

(Will be good. Will put Liberty Meadows books on Christmas/birthday list. Mom starts Christmas shopping--well, in August, actually. Remember, she has two kids with December birthdays.)

Also: I have a headache because my headphones are finally on their last legs--only the left ear works now. The weird thing is, they've been crappy for at least a year now, but they didn't decide to die until I made plans to buy a new pair tomorrow anyway. But, you know, God forbid a constant stream of '80s music should cease to be piped directly into my skull.

Come to think of it, the headache may just be from today in general--my stepsister-in-law... my stepfather's son's wife... look, let's just call her "Beth"--wanted to come do a Mary Kay demo for Sister Girl and our cousin (mother's sister's daughter... sigh), and it turned into this giant bipartisan family luncheon/flying circus. I came downstairs about an hour into it, and it was all eyeshadow and prosciutto and Pomeranians barking and cat leaping across the room and Provolone and chicken salad and lip pencils and stephew jumping up and down wanna-go-swim and baby step-neice (steice?) flinging cantaloupe at the cat and dueling batches of brownies and my aunt watching football and honeydew chunks underfoot. (Honestly--makeup and toddlers and football? If I had been thirteen, it would have been the seventh circle of my own personal hell. As it was, I was just sort of like, "Mmm, smoked cheddar.") So all in all, not so bad. But hectic.

I'm so happy you found Liberty Meadows, it really is a great series.

If you can find a decent comic shop in your area you might be able to track down back issues.

The 'Evil Brandy' storyline is one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Liberty Meadows makes me think of Wonder Woman and then I miss the early 90s Wonder Woman comics I gave away in middle school. And then I cry.

I really should buy headphones. Do you know anything of these.. hadphones? I haven't bought a pair in years and have no clue where to spend my small amount of money.

I love the ones I've got now--Sony MDR-V200, $20, lightly padded, longest cord I've ever seen, and have held up for about five or six years of heavy use. I'm basically going to Best Buy to see if I can find the closest thing possible.

My dad had a pair of those all through my high schol years, they had a full life with the four children and rabid family of computer users.

They were the best headphones ever though. I see some on Ebay but will only buy if still in package ;)

I think I was very lucky in that my mother was always like, "Ugh, that sucks." Of course, her birthday is February 18, so I'm sure guys would give her flowers for Valentine's Day and then four days later be like, "What? I thought we already had that covered."

Eeeee, Liberty Meadows! Yes, I've seen some samples before, but hadn't bothered to look it up. Many thanks and so forth. It's amusin' how he drags in characters from other comics.

It says something that certain artists draw perfectly beautiful women, but tend to portray men as animals/gnomes/unattractive whatnots. Liberty Meadows reminds me a bit of the art of Larry Elmore (http://www.larryelmore.com/), especially "Snarfquest". Slightly. Or I could be hallucinatin', again. :p

As to headphones, i do not know what you intend to buy yet, but i've bought this pair of audio-technica (code: ATH-FC7) in japan for what would be about US$45. VERY happy with them. I don't know if your loke radioshack carries them, might try virgin records in the nearest major city. I really like the sound they have - best headphones i ever had.

Oh, the joyous rapture of Liberty Meadows! I adore Frank Cho. Thank the PTB that it is no longer running in the newspapers. As previously mentioned you should be able to find plenty of back issues at a local comic book store...and you know the comic book store is always interesting. Almost...sometimes.

Before he did Liberty Meadows, Frank Cho did a strip for his college newspaper (University of Maryland I think) called University^2. A lot of the same characters, with a few differences and some more...newspaper unfriendly punchlines. It was collected into a trade paperback a few years back. Funny stuff.

I never thought of describing the strip as "wacky animals with a Marvel babe" before. I always call it "cheesecake and critters."

I Google myself (or 'Yarha', anyway) now and then. Thanks to that celebrated search engine, we can find out exactly what dirty phrase our online nicks accidentally mean in Hindi, or Swahili, or Dutch, or whatever.

What would we do without it?!

Glad I could help. :)

I do have a wishlist, which you can probably find if you search hard enough, but I'm sort of against posting it and taking advantage of people's generosity, you know? I'd feel guilty.

(It also looks like Vladimir wants to get me the Liberty Meadows books, so that temptation is removed. :)
