I agree, it was thoroughly enjoyable, but I too, felt like there were little tiiiiiiiiiiiiinytinytiny hiccups here and there. Yes, they stirred the chapters with a stick, and added a few things here and there, but that is not what bothered me. I think the 'serial' nature of this particular novel makes it trickier than the first couple. There are islands where Stuff Happens and long spaces between there where Not Much happens. I can see WHY they did X, Y, and Z. However, that is a problem they're going to keep running into, esp at things get more and more Allegorical (anyone else positively CRINGING over "The Last Battle" yet?).
Did I like it? Absolutely. Was it as good as the last couple. Well...like you said, I think it's just a different kind of movie. Kinda like the Harry Potter flicks. There's a point at which it stops being a kids film and things get srs. Or something.
