First, let me get this out of the way: http://www.take180.com/s/Two_and_a_Half_Watchmen/hfajj?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=watch110&utm_campaign=watch
(The rest is tl;dr commentary on the movie.)
I really did love the movie. My mother did as well - she was surprised at how thought-provoking it was, and she kept arguing with me that Rorschach didn't have to die (I think he was her favorite character). I noticed she had the best reactions to some of the scenes, and I thought, if this movie can affect my mother this well, then it's doing something right. (She got misty-eyed towards the end with the panoramic shot of Ground Zero, because the World Trade Center was in the background; I was very glad that was kept in.)
There was one comment she had: "Okay, so they showed us how and why the Minutemen got together, but what about the Watchmen?" I do wish they had kept Captain Metropolis as the one to organize the group rather than Ozymandias. It made more sense, or at least had more meaning behind it. It was one of my favorite scenes, actually.
You know, I see a lot of people saying one of two things: "SO MUCH BLUE PENIS," or "I did not expect it to be so violent and bloody!"
I... thought the wang and gore was toned down, actually. There were far more shots of Dr. Manhattan from the waist-up than full-frontal. It seemed was tastefully done, only showing his glowing blue bits when it was necessary for a shot, and there were shots that focused on them. The violence didn't bother me either - there wasn't as much as there could have been (which I'm very happy about) and yes, when it happened it went all-out, but the same could be said for the comic. Also, The "Snyder Slo-Mo" was also limited to action scenes, so once my mind associated "action" with "slo-mo" it didn't distract me at all or seem excessive.
The Dan and Laurie scene was a bit absurd, but... I thought it worked. I didn't expect to get to know them that well, though.

I want to go see it in IMAX now. :D
