In an interview about that Twilight Director's Notebook she put together, Catherine Hardwicke mentioned that despite being fired from Twilight, Summit had asked her to take on another YA adapatation but didn't mention the book in question.
Maybe this is her Twilight curse; she escapes having to deal with Breaking Dawn and the TwiMoms but ends up as Summit's go to gal for YA adaptations when she really wants to do more indie films that few people will see.
