I LOVED Prince Caspian! My friends and I saw it like seven times in the theatre, and then listened to the soundtrack over and over again until the DVD came out...

[identity profile] cacopheny.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
... I thought Caspian was BETTER than Wardrobe, honestly >.> So I don't get the bad business and complaints, myself.

And sadly, the head tricks with Aslan were in the book and the old BBC version, too =/ At least as far as I remember (it's been a long time).

I will add to the Prince Caspian love. For all its flaws, I think it was a worthy sequel to the first, and captured what there was to love in the book.

[identity profile] riari.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I definitely liked Prince Caspian. I haven't read the books. Unless I did and totally forgot everything about them. One of these days I'll have the money to buy both DVDs.

I kept thinking I have then I saw the first movie, and I couldn't recognize anything in it. *shrug*

I enjoyed "Prince Caspian" a lot. Glad to hear the third movie is getting its shot.

also, $60 for silver tone? really? wear it for a week and it will look like copper. really crappy copper. make it in sterling and maybe i'll decide if i'm that much of a nerd or not.

I've actually been wondering what's up with the Twilight Guide (because I'm just really curious as to what she could possibly put in a book that she can't put on her site) but it looks like there's been a lot of tomfoolery going on in that front. From what I've heard, the release dates differ depending on where you ask (from February, to September, to never) even though originally it was supposed to be released in December. So I'm wondering if they've pulled the plug on that one as well.

[identity profile] kelcea.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I work at a bookstore, and the last I've heard is an April-May release.

I liked Prince Caspian better than the first one, which seems like Tilda Swinton blasphemy, I know. But I liked the kids being older!

(Actually my favorite bit from either of the films is when the kids are adults at the end of the first one.)

[identity profile] anonymeet.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, except the Edmund actor aged past the age his character is supposed to, I think and they didn't really take account of that in the script. Isn't there a line with him being grossed out by Susan and Caspian kissing? I was like, yeah, you've gotta 15, kid. If you still think girls have cooties, you have got problems.

I think they just should have embraced the older kids . . .

My main problem with Prince Caspian was that it had so little similarity to the book. I get that a screen adaptation needs some editing to make it more watchable, but there's "tweaking for the sake of the medium" and then there's "an attack on Miraz's castle in which the combatants are dropped off by griffins"

Showtime Intending To Turn 'The Tudors' Into Gay Porn, Apparently.

After they had the token gay guy anally rape his wife on their wedding night, I figured that they'd alienated that paticular audience. Guess they want it back.

[identity profile] kismeteve.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, poor Headset Vince. I wanted a SlapChop anyway, so why not contribute to the good fight? (I tried to explain the Anonymous-RickRolling CoS protests and got looks from people. Somehow, it just doesn't translate.)

I love Mary Louise Parker, but not only can I not see her as Hedda (Nora maybe), but I do think her style of acting clashes with Rickson's directorial style. I saw his staging of The Seagull a few months back, and I can see where they'd have differences.

[identity profile] maudelynn.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
It brings a whole new meaning to "Look at these nuts!" in the slapchop adverts, doesn't it ?

I'm always the first to say that as a kid, I was super wimpy when it came to visual stimulus, and I was seventeen before I managed to actually sit down and watch The Nightmare Before Christmas. That being said, I think Coraline is much, much more the sort of thing I'd have been able to tolerate. See, while Nightmare is a soft sort of scary, it's all darkness and goth, even in the christmas parts.

Coraline is a superdark idea wrapped in an adventure story, and that's exactly what I craved as a kid. That and I had a habit of hiding in crawlspaces, hoping they'd lead to a secret dimension.

Am looking at my copy of 'Prince Caspian' as we speak.

Steven Moyer is looking good for a very pasty guy! Poor guy probably isn't allowed out in daylight per the contract. ;)

I was totally unsurprised re: Rpattz modeling, because I distinctly remember looking at Rankin's (http://www.rankin.co.uk/) website in 2004 and saw him in the "Beauty" section (OBVS)! I am absolutely sure it was him but unfortunately I can't find the photo...but to be sure it is even more-- well-- just more than that modeling photo.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:45 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] wheresmytower.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
I, personally, actually thought Caspian the movie beat the hell out of the book, blasphemous though that is. Can't help it though, cause while the book made sense in the C. S. Lewis has POINTS and switching stuff up is the way to make this a SERIES ways, the movie made sense in the much more captivating we've got characters whose development should really evolve LOGICALLY and a world that can KICK YOUR ASS ways. Much more important.

Also, I'm a history major and not at all new to the fucking-it-over-to-the-point-of-mind-explosion syndrome, but there's a way to do gratuitous nudity right, and that way was in HBO's Rome. They should pay attention.

Huzzah for Pop-Pop! Of course, I always figured either Cera showed up or about a third of the movie would be making fun of him somehow, anyway. He should know better.

[identity profile] sunni-sideup.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 02:54 am (UTC)(link)

RHETORICAL QUESTION, RIGHT CLEO?

Considering that I own 6 different editions of the books, including my original pbs from the 70s, I'd say I was a HUGE fan, and I loved the movies. In fact, I think the movie improved Prince Caspian, and was far better than the book.

Also-also, the Twilight Teez's Bella's bracelet is much cuter. http://www.twilightteez.com/bella-s-bracelet-tm.html

My friend (yes, a friend - not me) has it and it's surprisingly nice. The wolf is cool, I'm just not a fan of the heart, but you can totally buy a Swarovski cristal and replace it! Sure, it's expensive, but it would look amazing and take away the "white-trash" factor of the bracelet. http://www.swarovski.com

I liked Prince Caspian! I liked it far better than The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. For assorted reasons.
1) Lack of Aslan. Pontificating lions have never been a turn on.
2) Hot male actors. Barnes' accent aside, he got prettier as the movie went on.
3) Caspian/Susan romance hooray!
4) The storyline about Peter not being able to readjust to life as a child after ruling a country as a king really struck me, and the children's joyful return to Narnia was just charming.
5) Edmund the Awesome

so yeah.

[identity profile] skellington7d.livejournal.com 2009-01-30 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the Caspian movie, and when I got the DVD I forced my brother and dad to watch it. They were like "All right we'll watch the first ten minutes" but then got totally into it and stayed for the whole movie. But they've never read the books so they don't have that whole "purist" mindset.
