In a less corny vein, I can see Edward Dollen being a bit put out by Lyra and the alethiometer. Her ability more is More Special than his mind-reading, IMO.
I wonder if Lyra could ask the alethiometer about Eowyn and Faramir? It'd probably just be all "Give it time, JEEZ!" in that sassy way it has when the answer is obvious.
