Okay, I've been working productively for two hours, so now we're going to do a Twi-spam entry to get it all out of the way.

From [livejournal.com profile] wendyzski: Video: Fans upset about Pattinson event from the Chicago ABC affiliate. I have got to tell you, I NEVER, EVER get tired of watching actual news reports on these things. (Okay, I do get tired. Don't go dig up more and send them to me or anything.) It's just, like--the juxtaposition of the real world and SRS FANDOM BZNS just never stops being hilarious for me. It would be like CNN reporting on a Fandom Wank entry or something.

(I also like how they have an entertainment reporter talk to Pattinson and he's like, "It doesn't even matter what I say, they just keep screaming. I could just mumble to myself, they can't even hear me.")

Twilighters Anonymous: HOT TOPIC LEARNS ITS LESSONS THE HARD WAY… AGAIN; Hot Topic Adds Event... "featuring Nikki Reed, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone, Kellen Lutz and Paramore." Good luck making it out alive, you guys!

An interview with a Dallas news affiliate: "They're not really screaming for me." Awww. AND THEN HE SAYS THAT STEPHENIE MEYER AND HER SEXUAL FANTASY ARE CRAZY AGAIN. And he ELABORATES. The part about how the Edward details are "so specific"? I'd thought he was going to bring in something about the constant loving descriptions of Edward's hair or his "crooked smile," but what he actually mentions is the way Edward rubs his nose (like, between his eyes) when he's trying not to go into a glitter-rage meltdown (I remember this vividly from the Volvo of Vengeance scene). In case you're thinking Robert Pattinson is a total asshole, though, he's actually pretty positive about the second book, so, again... I think we're just dealing with no verbal filter here.

Interviews with 'Twilight' cast from movies.about.com: "I just don't want to get stabbed or something." Also: Nikki Reed is pretty awesome, the cast plays Taboo and poker together, and the funniest line was cut from the movie, woe.
Are you prepared for [the Tour of Terror ] because it seems that the fans are very passionate?

Kristen Stewart: "Yeah, that's a good [word]. That's polite. We did a book signing in Rome that while we were leaving the building I couldn't get to the car. It was actually scary. I was being dragged by security. I wasn't even on my own feet. I was thrown into a van because if they hadn't done it I would've gotten…I was literally picked up and thrown into a van and then it shut and then the van just started shaking. It has nothing to do with you. It's a really surreal experience because you're like, 'God. What?' It's fine. I think based on that experience there's like an underground entrance that we've all been told about. There's heightened security. We're going to be very guarded. I'm not going anywhere unless they've got 15 big guys around me." [laughing]

How weird is it to see reports on your hair on the internet every day?

Robert Pattinson: "Actually, I was in New York doing a radio interview and [there are] people sending in messages. 95% percent of the messages were saying, 'Take your hat off.' I was just like, 'Okay.' When people say something has become a trademark you have got to get rid of it. It's the worst."
At first I read this as "There are people sending it messages." I was not fazed by this idea at all, really.

[livejournal.com profile] bellereve_: Kristen Stewart, frustrated with fans stalking the movie set, calls them "retarded." Oh... oh dear.

(Reactions to the cast interviews: What you hope doesn’t happen when your book is made into a big movie; Pattinson Gets to the Heart of Stephenie Meyer and Her 'Twilight' Series.)

EW's top 25 entertainers of the year: HIGHER THAN ROCK BAND? COME ON!

(Did I not tell you RDJ would be #1? NO ONE EVER BELIEVES ME.)

Cam Gigandet Covers Men’s Health. "To cover" now means "to be on the cover of"?

My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle canceled. Oh, snap--it looks like Jacob's out of a job now, too. I wonder if the new 90210 will be the next to go?

[livejournal.com profile] serenity_valley: A Twilight-themed comic at Hijinks Ensue.

From [livejournal.com profile] miss_eponine: Fifteen minutes of B-roll footage, and it is so amazing that I am putting the link outside a cut. That amazing. And it pretty much gives away the entire movie. If you like watching stunts and wires and green-screens (and I LIVE for this shit, seriously), you will love it. Also? Actors miming vampire baseball. GOLD.

Smeyer is absolutely insane; we all knew this already.

Honestly, I feel bad for her husband. Is he so poor in the saddle that his wife has to invent a teenage predator fantasy to satisfy herself?

I'm still waiting for the fan backlash from all these horrible (yet correct) things that the stars are saying about them.

But then I get an image of the scene from Life of Brian:

Brian: I'm not the Messiah! Will you please listen? I am not the Messiah, do you understand? Honestly!
Girl: Only the true Messiah denies His divinity.
Brian: What? Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right! I am the Messiah!
Followers: He is! He is the Messiah!
Brian: Now, fuck off!
[silence]
Arthur: How shall we fuck off, O Lord?

Just replace "the Messiah" with "Edward" and it fits perfectly.

Anyone else have the protective urge to steal Robert and Kristen away and set them up in a fortress somewhere?

Seriously, he is looking tired and angry and so damn fed up. I miss the way he used to be. He always used to look happy and almost-stoned or just-woke up, and he always used to smile and laugh. The only time he smiled in that interview was when the guy mentioned something non-Twilight, and when he did smile, it was tense and guarded.

If this franchise burns him out and he stops acting, I am going to be incredibly angry.

De-lurking to say: I snorted coffee at that Hijinks Ensue comic. Thank you.

The general bemusement of the average adult is funny to me since, as a YA author (not to mention, a dedicated denizen of the Internet), I am inundated with Twilight. It's everywhere. Love the book, hate the book, envy the book, we gawk and marvel and the phenomenon around it.

So I was startled by the news coverage from Dallas the other day when one of the anchors had NO IDEA what Twilight was about. He was clueless other than that it was "a teen romance novel." The (female) anchor said "it's about a girl who falls in love with a vampire" and the baffled look he gave her was PRICELESS. Hee! Braaaaainnnsss indeed.

From: [identity profile] alexthedevil.livejournal.com
I thought you would appreciate this:

Despite the Twilight hype, and half of my flist fangirling over the book (the other half hates it and/or snarks it), and sending me a copy of the e-book about 4 months ago, and all your entries, I have never read the books.

And I've read bits of pieces of your linkspam, and the Tour of Terror scares the crap out of me, and I've read your recaps, but I still have managed to keep myself away from the Twilight phenomenon. And I've said yes, I will eventually read the books, but no, I will not rush out madly to see the movie - I don't even know the full plot apart from the basic premise and what I remember from the recaps.

AND THEN YOU GO AND POST THE 15 MINUTES OF FOOTAGE.

Darn it all, now you've got me intrigued and I'm afraid it will be like sparkly crack I can't stay away from and now I have to read the books before the movie is out (despite the fact I have an assignment due that requires much research in 2 weeks and I haven't even *started*) and now I will have to go see the movie especially because if the vampire baseball looks that awesome when it's fake? Totally have to see it as the full movie.

So yes, I blame you for this corruption D:

Date: 2008-11-14 06:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] profbutters.livejournal.com
Don't blame you. I only read the books this August, and then it was because I was trapped in an airport with nothing to eat for hours and hours. It's a sad comment that to me "books=food." So I bought a copy of *Twilight* and some Starbursts and made do. Then I was on a boat in Maine with nothing to do after 8 PM, and that's how I wound up reading all four books in about a week.

But now I am ahead of the curve and I am enjoying the lulz.

From: [identity profile] orca-girl.livejournal.com
First: seriously, this stuff? Still not getting old. I entirely blame YOU for the fact that, although I would not go near the books with a 22 and a half foot pole, and I detest vampires generally... I want to go see this movie. (I wish I could convince my friends to go with me for the LULZ.)

Second: mild observations on the EW 25 Greatest etc. list:

* Awww, NPH! You know the moment when I realized that NPH was capable of great things? When he played the token white guy in "Undercover Brother" (2002). Seriously, brilliant movie.

* Leona Lewis: ''They don't even know what it means but they're still singing it!'' First: dude, a lot of people in foreign countries where English isn't the first language still know some English (way more than people in the U.S. know languages besides English). Second: even if they don't know English, it's quite possible that they obtained a translation of the lyrics and they DO know what it means. (Well, at least, I do that with non-English songs that I like. Because I like to know what I'm singing along to.)

* Am surprised that Michael Phelps comes in that low, really.

* YAY, RDJ!

this may be blasphemous (blaspheme, blasphe-you, blasphe-everybody-in-the-room), but i was watching the youtube interview when he calls her crazy again and i was fixated on Edward's nose in the poster behind RPattz. it's in profile and looks very defined, very Roman. and then i looked at RPattz's actual nose, which is not very defined and very Roman, at least from the front in that video.

i'm thinking it's a digitally enhanced nose?

I hate to say it, but I kind of noticed that myself. It's very pronounced on the EW cover as well (the one I got in the mail is the one of Kristen Stewart face-on and him in profile). And watching that interview, I was like... is it just because we're seeing him head-on? What happened to his nose?

I got the email from Borders and I started crying. It's bad enough whent here are midnight release parties because the drooling zombies fanpeoples are hanging around for three hours after close. And usually spending the first hour or so before the waiting in the video store where I work. We carry some Twilight stuff, one of four stores that does. And I'm one of the two people on duty that night. I hope that it doesn't get too scary. I might try and pull the gate about that time and just hide in the corner rocking back and forth in fear if it does get scary.

f.y.e. so many meanings, so little understanding.
