I concur with the Winamp recommendations. It's what I used a few up until a few years ago and you really can't beat it's simplicity. I think I used version 2 for a long time (they're up to version 5.something now). You can go to Oldversion.com and get any of the older versions to play with. I only recommend that because like all software, it's gotten more feature-heavy over the years, and you seem to have computer issues sometimes, so a more bare bones player might be preferable.
