Well, partly this is just me pointing out that Beedle was announced and went on pre-order today, period. The other part is me laughing at the people running around saying, "Twilight is bigger than Harry Potter!" Um, no.

Wait ... so you're saying eight million copies is fewer than four HUNDRED million copies?

Still ... I wouldn't mind selling eight million copies of something. Or even eight hundred. *self-snap*

I know, but these people are out of their minds. Which is why I enjoy having visual aids to smack them with.

It's even more of a disparity when you realize that when the media says "Twilight has sold 5.3 MILLION copies!", they're not talking about Twilight, the book... they're talking, Twilight... the entire series. As in, each individual book sold less than 2 million copies, on average.

Impressive and profitable, yes, as most books don't hit even one million copies sold, and it's a sure bet that lots of folks have read it through friends or the library (or illegally through PDF, heh), so I'd wager well over 3-4 million people have read it in the US...

But 3-4 million people is not only a mere fraction of the people who've read HP in the US, it's also like, a single digit percentage of the population. Granted, a larger percentage has read it if we're only looking at the female half of the population, or we're just looking at those 21 and under or whatnot, but still. Small.

So, yeah. Successful, but hardly earth-shattering. :)
