Just a note

Two things that came up in the comments of the previous entry:

1. Ellen Page IS Jane Eyre (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] elbeonore). "Alison Owen of Ruby Films, who most recently produced 'The Other Boleyn Girl,' is working with BBC Films to develop the new adaptation of Bronte's classic 19th century romance." OH HELL NO.

2. This thread:

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: I'm waiting for the action figures. But really they won't have much action except to mope around and pine over Bella.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: Edward would definitely have Sparkle Action, though.

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: Most embarrassing moment in vampire lore EVER.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: I hereby swear (holds up hand) that if I write a 15M for this movie, I will try my damnedest to work in the line, "I have begun to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion."

[livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer: And I'll want an icon of that.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda: Done!

I'm not familiar with Twilight but that icon is brilliant.

[identity profile] cleolinda.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, thanks. Long story short, the Twilight vampires sparkle (like diamonds? I think that's what someone told me?) in direct sunlight.

Perfect.

Part of me thinks that the Twilight vampires are the ones who got swirlies and stuffed in their lockers in vampire school.

[identity profile] r-a-black.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Poor guys, they'd never be able to hide from the bullies on bright days... unless the bullies are the kind of vampires that would burn in sunlight AS IS THE WAY GOD INTENDED IT!

XD Icon love. I'm so glad you mentioned M15 for this movie, I was hoping you'd think about it. It would be hilarious.

No pressure though.

....pleeeeeeeaaaaasseee?

......this would be the point where I cringe and cry. Why don't they just make a movie version of Jenna Starborn (http://www.amazon.com/Jenna-Starborn-Sharon-Shinn/dp/B000H2MPCW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210132222&sr=8-1) and put Ellen Page in THAT? That's a modern update to Jane Eyre without SUCKING.

(for those who haven't had a chance to read it, it's a SF version of Jane Eyre in which Jenna is a nuclear technician instead of a governess, and there are literal classes of citizenship to come between Jenna and Everett. And it's FANTASTIC.)

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I must read that. It sounds amazing.

[identity profile] falco-conlon.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
But...but maybe working with BBC films? Maybe? GOD ELLEN IS SO PERFECT FOR IT. PLEASE DON'T BUTCHER THIS ONE!

[identity profile] lovefromgirl.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
The Beeb already did a Jane Eyre recently, didn't they? I watched on Masterpiece Theatre.

WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?

no.

[identity profile] darth-snarky.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around Ellen Page as Jane Eyre, at all.

(It doesn't help that I get in my mental image of her in a 19th-century dress, she looks like she's just playign dress-up. Maybe if just once this past awards season, I'd seen in her in a dress and not looking awkward at the same time...)

[identity profile] ter369.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
So .... are we so out of screenplay ideas, that one year we get a NEW IMPROVED Jane Eyre with flavor-of-the-moment young actress, and the very next year we get yet another Pride and Prejudice, in a never ending pattern until they bump into each other during production?

Super icons, Cleo. I almost lost it when a friend described the Twilight vamps as keeping out of the sun 'cause they were so gosh darn pretty in full daylight that their true nature was revealed. Luckily we were on the phone and I could cover the mouthpiece while I choked back laughs.

It's totally a Victorian lit black hole waiting to happen. When do you think we'll see a movie called Becoming Charlotte Bronte?

ellen page as Jane Eyre... yeah... definitely not seeing that. And while we're on the whole Bronte adaption theme, did we ever find out who they're casting opposite Portman as Heathcliff?

[identity profile] lovefromgirl.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's just me, but... you don't go from pregnant teenager in one film to spinster governess in the next. There's something wrong with that casting. I love Ellen Page to death, but please, cast a slightly older actress.

[identity profile] claidissa.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I haven't read it, but I thought Jane was about 18?

Oh, Cleo. You totally made my day with that. And its totally the scene between him and Emmett in the trailer. "She's not one of us!" For sure. Ya'll have got PERSONALITY.

[identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking Emmett wants to add "and she's drab" to the end of that statement every time I watch it.

For some reason Emmett comes across as the only one with any sense to me. He's that poor guy stuck with the bitchy girlfriend from hell whose nice and just wants to hang with the guys.

Want to hear 30 seconds of each cue from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? (http://www.amazon.com/Indiana-Jones-Kingdom-Crystal-Skull/dp/B00193EGNY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1210174484&sr=8-3) Now you can! Cate Blanchett's Irina gets a theme. And a nice foreboding theme from Raiders returns in the cue "The Spell of the Skull"...

[identity profile] sneaky-minx.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it sad that the thing that's intrigued me the most about Twilight thus far is all this sparkle talk? I may have to actually buy the books, if only to bedazzle them for my own amusement.

I have been debating in my mind whether or not I would read your Twilight in 15M (if, of course, it ever comes into being). I kind of want to keep it sacred, you see.

But... based on that line... I definitely will. As long as it's a friendly parody. And after I've seen the movie enough that it doesn't bother me when people point out any discrepencies.

[identity profile] ambiguousreason.livejournal.com 2008-05-14 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
cleo, is it cool if i link to those icons in a twilight community? i will of course give you proper credit. :)

I thought you'd be interested to know that the band Four Year Strong has a song called "Sparkle Motion"
I know it's from [i]Donnie Darko[/i] (a movie I love) but this is still the first thing I thought of :)
