Wednesday night, blah

Hmm. Nothing much going on today, except swimming and an attempt to read over recent output. As much as I'm clinging to the last couple of weeks of summer, maybe fall coming in will help me get back into Black Ribbon. Hell, maybe I should get back into my yearly reading of old-fashioned gothic fiction.

Also, shenanigans: our neighbors are having some work done on their house, and there's a retaining wall on our property that faces them. Because the street is on a downward slope, you really can't see the wall from our house or yard at all, so we said they could paint it whatever color they wanted. But it's still fundamentally our property, right? Well, a couple of their workmen decided to chisel out a couple of bricks--without anyone's permission, mind you, not even our neighbor's--and declare that they would need to rebuild the wall ($1000). So Our Neighbor hurries over to tell my mother. (Those of you who know my mother from this journal can probably already see where this is going.) My mother says that the wall is fine, and that we are not going to do anything to it, unless Our Neighbor wants to pay for it, and P.S., PUT THOSE BRICKS BACK. The next day, the workmen come back to talk to my mother and tell her that she's really going to need to rebuild the wall, and they can do it very conveniently while they're already at Our Neighbor's ($2500). My mother replied that she wanted the bricks back in that wall now, and added that if the bricks did not "conveniently" get back in that wall, she would be calling an attorney. The rest of us are kind of hoping that they come back a third time, because we want to see the fun.

Photos of bare-chested Putin create stir. Hey, better their president than ours. (Which reminds me: I once had a conversation with my sister and her best friend in which they both admitted to finding Dubya attractive--perhaps, dare I say it, hot. I have still not recovered from the psychological wounds inflicted that day.)

Holy shit: An IM Infatuation Turned to Romance. Then the Truth Came Out, via Jezebel. It's not the deception. It's not even the crime that was committed. It's the double-cross that makes this one so shocking.

'America's Got Talent' names 'best new act.' Have you seen this guy? He can 1) sing as 2) different celebrities 3) as a ventriloquist. The night I saw him, he was singing "What a Wonderful World" (if I remember correctly) as Ray Charles, and the puppet was singing as Kermit the Frog. Damn.

Eh, I'm not interested in a prequel. They still have plotlines to finish (hello? What happened to Erika?) and I think they were going to do a pregnancy storyline, but Beckinsale nixed that. And I really hope it doesn't follow that "Blood Enemy" book, because that was the crappiest book I have ever read. Ever.

This is soooo OT, but I don't have anyone else to discuss it with:

Kingdom of Loathing. New NS13 content. Have you played it yet? I got my Silver Order of the Wossname a few days ago and couldn't be happier. Just curious - the only other person I know who's into KoL just started the Island War quests.

I would die from glee if they did a proper Underworld prequel with Victor and Marcus and Amelia and the whole werewolves-as-slaves thing and the Lucian/Sonya backstory. Die, I tell you.

I'm not worried about making a will, though, because the chances of that happening are about zilch.

I love when your mom gets her righteous anger on! She's so entertaining.

BUSH IS NOT ATTRACTIVE. *barf*

I love Daniel Craig, but he is NOT Steve McQueen! (not that I know who is)

Whoa, holy SHIT on that IM romance story. I totally didn't see that coming.

I don't see how Scott Speedman has any role to play in an Underworld prequel?

He was clearly an unknown in the beginning of the first movie... there's no window that I see for him to be in a prequel that wouldn't fuck up the storyline set in UW1.

I'd be down for a UW3 but if I can recall... UW2 closed up most of the questions from UW1. What's left to do?

IM thing is totally wack.

Bueller sequel, eh? It sounds disappointing.

[identity profile] pinstripe-bindi.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, for fuck's sake. Both Underworld movies were cinematic mushroom clouds, why do they insist on making more of the damn things? And it pains me to say that, because I went to high school with Len Wiseman, and he was a really super-nice guy. But seriously.

The guy that played Craven or Draven or whatever the hell his name was, in the first movie, was the absolute worst actor I have ever seen in my life. It was like he learned to act by watching the exaggerated facial expressions of old silent movie actors. And he sneered and leered so much I was afraid he was going to wind up chewing his own face off.

'‘Return Of The Jedi,’ Directed By…David Lynch?'

I remember reading about that quite a ways back, like when Blue Velvet came out. Lynch said something like, 'I didn't want to be George Lucas' whipping boy.'

I hope no one touches Guys and Dolls. I don't really see Mandy Moore in the role of Adelaide, and seriously, who could take Frank Sinatra's place as Nathan, or Marlon Brando's role as Sky? Those are CLASSIC performances, that I don't need to see redone by anyone alive today.

James Mangold? Is that his real name or his porn star name?

As someone who regularly crushes on men 30 years older then myself, I probably shouldn't say anything about other people's tastes. BUT BUSH??? ATTRACTIVE??? HOW?!?!?!?

Also: am I a horrible person for reading the IM-fake-romance story and then thinking "Damn! That'd make a great movie!" *facepalms her own callousness*

[identity profile] ali-jayne.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
That IM-Infatuation story? HO-LEE SHIT. I'm just flabbergasted here. And it's so, so sad, too. I feel bad for the guy who was fooled, I feel bad for the boy who was killed, and I feel bad for the girl whose identity was used to fool these people. I even feel bad for Mary, who doesn't even realize how sick she is. Wow. D:

I'll admit, when I saw Farhenheit 911 I thought that Bush was attractive when he was younger. If you were just shown a picture of him and knew nothing about his personality, you might feel the same way, I really think it's the sense that he's arrogant and not all that bright that makes him unattractive.
