It was at the Anansi Boys booksigning here in Austin a couple of months ago. I gave him a bottle of Shub-Niggurath while he was signing my books because hey, he writes all those Lovecraft pastiches, and he's brought me so much happiness over the past... 15+ years (when did DON'T PANIC first come out?) and I had to find some way to thank him.
He gave me the best handshake ever and said if he wasn't stuck behind the table (Bookpeople puts writers at signings between a very wide table) he'd hug me. He's amazing in person; he honestly seems to respect and like his fans. Also he's very nice looking and has a wonderful speaking voice.
I wouldn't have been able to go if it hadn't been for my friend elisavet's help, so of the three books we were allowed, I had him sign my copy of CORALINE to her so I could thank her properly. He drew a cute little rodent under his signature :)

I love Neil Gaiman.
