Actually getting somewhere with "Attack of the Clones," thank God. Have been listening to Avril Lavigne all day while writing, which--look, shut up, okay? If it works for me, it works for me. And don't front, "My Happy Ending" is pretty catchy. Besides, I can't resist a song that starts out with the lines, "Let's talk this over. It's not like we're dead." Say what? Way to borrow trouble there, Av.

Points of interest:

The Directorium--a fannish Wiki "to provide a structured, searchable and easily updatable directory of fannish sites for nearly all fandoms and media (fanfic, fanart, vids, zines, archives, screencaps, scripts, etc.)." Not much there at the moment, so those of you with Wiki-editing experience may want to get over there and help out.

A guide on How to Write Good. I know it made me a better writer...

Neil Gaiman is gracious about The Other Beowulf, because he is Neil and that is what he does. *luff*

Question for those of you familiar with the Star Wars universe: Why does Obi-Wan hate flying? He spends most of AOTC being like, "I hate flying! I hate flying anyway, but [your driving] is suicide! ACK, meteors! I HATE FLYING!" The hell? You'd think a prequel would clear up something, not add a new mystery.

Sigh. Taking a dinner break now. Thank God all my Wide, Wide World reading is done for tomorrow. Now all I have to do is wash and dry some clothes while I hammer out some Anakin temper tantrums...

ETA: God, my jaw hurts. I think I've been sitting here too long.

I know about the SW thing, it never made any sense... and in A New Hope, isn't it C-3PO who says he hates flying? Obi-wan seems completely fine with it. So random.

yay for productiveness! It's still not as good as watching a bunch of movies that are in your basement for fun very good!

[identity profile] hobbit-feet.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it wasn't so much flying in general, as Anakin's flying in particular that he hated.

*shrugs* I probably need to see the movie again. It's been ages since I last saw it.

Is "My Happy Ending" the one with the cool black-and-white 1920s style video? Because I remember that video. It was cool.

Ha! I love that line. :D And I like the song, too, which earned me a lot of scorn from my sister over break.

PS

"My Happy Ending" is an awesomely catchy song. It shames me to admit that I actually like most of Avril's songs. The girl herself is a different story.

From some sneak peak at episode 2: " Slave I is shown firing a missile at Obi-Wan's Starfighter. Obi-Wan: "Blast, this is why I hate flying!" The missile then hits an asteroid and smashes in a cool way."

So err, he hates flying because people shoot at him when he flies?

I read that "How To Write Good" thing a long time ago and had almost forgotten about it. Damn funny. OOOOHHHHH!!! YOU should write one, except, like, "How To Write Fanfic Good". Or something ("Great, pile one more thing on my back, biatch.")

Neil is so cool it's mildly annoying. Pitch a fit! Scream at people! Moon a Trekkie! Something! I'd be screaming over another adaptation of the same thing, but I guess that's just the way it goes...

i'll have to agree

Hehe - that "How to Write Good" thing is brilliant! Thanks for sharing that. I'd like to make this comment longer but suddenly, I am run over by a truck.

The SW fan(atic) I room with has no idea why Obi hates flying. Maybe Lucas thought it would be humorous.

Now I am making myself sick ...

I am becoming annoyingly fan-girliffic, but thanks for "How to write Good". You're movies in 15m inspired me to take a creative writing class (just for giggles) and this link is worth at least three weeks of droning from my well-meaning, painfully earnest instructor ....

Clapping hands (I believe in funny, DAMMIT!) and sending you good karma from Michigan ...

I took two of my friends to POTO this weekend after enticing them with your POTO in 15m. What a fun night out! However, we may have annoyed our waiter at dinner afterwards "I hate this risotto verra, verra much! I leaf an tak my doggah too!"

Much as it may seem heresy to the rest of my generation,

[identity profile] count-01.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I actually like Avril Lavigne, too. Reminds me of the last generation's Bad Girls of Rock, the frickin' Go-Gos, man. Nobody can down the Go-Gos.

Give up teh respeck.

[identity profile] theatre-angel.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank god. Someone who's sensible and also likes Avril Lavigne. And I agree that "My Happy Ending" is quite catchy. I currently have it on repeat. ;-)

You could listen to that American Idol reject, and I wouldn't begrudge you, because obviously what you're doing is working.

I also used to listen to Hilary Duff and her ilk regularly, so I have no room to be talking

My favorite-- and by favorite I mean most mock-worthy moments in Attack of the Clones are these:

Shot of endless echoing expanses of bleak and featureless desert.

Cut to interior of house in desert.

Some Old Guy: You mother went out to gather mushrooms in this bleak and featureless desert, as she often did in the morning. Yes, we grow many mushrooms in the desert.

And later, after Mom kicked it and Anakin got revenge:

Shot of Anakin obsessively tinkering with something to distract himself from his feelings.

Anakin: Hello, Amidala. I am obsessively tinkering with something to distract myself from my feelings.

The whole "How to write good" reminds me of Lemony Snicket for some reason...

[identity profile] all-ephemera.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
I have a secret liking for Avril as well, which I shall never reveal to the people I know in real life. *lol*

[identity profile] neflhim.livejournal.com 2005-01-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I have nothing to add on the Avril front, so this may need to be taken with the proverbial grain of salt, but Star Wars I know.

So, Obi Wan 'Ben' Kinobi's fear of flying, eh. No Erica Jong references. I suspect that he is not so much opposed to flying, as to the fact that he is always seeming to be in mortal danger when it happens. And having Anikin as a pilot probably does not help.

Maybe it's the whole Jedi master thing. All those powers, then he places his life inside a big crate with missiles.

My friend has this little bit about the romance scene where he goes "I can't breathe"

and then starts sounding like darth vader, saying "'Luuuuke, I can't breeeeath... must have... antihistamine! So allergic... to evil!' dude, get this man some nasal spray, stat; he... he can't breathe!"

after that, it pretty much ruined the scene for me. Well, more so. I was the only one giggling in this huuuge theater, on the first ever showing (when it came out), cackling at the "romance" that was actively painful to watch, it reminded me of watching a ten car pileup in slow motion.

..if you happen to have access to WAM!, you should really watch it at 8pm EST. If that isn't worth summarising, I don't know what is..
