Okay, I have to admit, there were several parts in the book where I could totally feel the Phantom. I think it was mostly when Christine was telling the story of what it was like down there--he carried her down there and then knelt at her feet? And then at the end he's all like, "I was just a dog willing to die for her"? Oh yeah. But it's easier to crush on that when you're reading the book because it's possible to push the nasty parts to the back of your mind. I don't know how I'd feel if I were constantly, visually confronted with what he really looked like. The guy reeked of the tomb and he had no nose, man.
